Former Clafin Panthers center David Cobb signed a contract to play for Bree, a professional European basketball team in Belgium.

At 6-7,Cobb was recruited by South Carolina State in 2007. One year later, the Brooklyn, N.Y. native transferred to Claflin after just one season at SCSU. At Claflin, Cobb averaged 11.3 points and 12 rebounds per game coming off the bench and was Coach Ron Woodard’s most productive post player.

“David transferred to Claflin at the right time filling avoid at center and power forward which help the Panthers win the regular season title outright,” Woodard said. “David came in and gave us an inside presence on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Most importantly, David accepted his role as a back-up and did whatever was needed to help the team.”

Cobb was contacted after the season to participate in a professional try-out in Texas in early August. It was during this tryout that he caught the eye of European scouts and was invited to come back for a closer look. Cobb took advantage of the opportunity and impressed the scouts to the point where he was being considered by two teams where he would showcase his basketball talent.

The season has begun for David and his new team, Bree, Currently, Cobb and his teammates stand at 3-2 overall. Cobb is averaging a double-double in points (12) and rebounds (15) so far this season.
