UDC Historical Society plans Fall Festival this weekend
Thursday, November 05, 2009GROVER -- The Upper Dorchester County Historical Society will hold its second annual Fall Festival from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
The recently restored 210-year-old Koger Plantation House will be open for viewing during the festival. Also on display will be donated antique furniture and tools, and archaeological artifacts found beneath the house during a recent excavation. The house is three miles west of Grover on S.C. 19.
Several groups and individuals -- including Jesse Cockcroft, Jenny Welch, T.J. Baker, Cynthia Hiott and Kayla Fralix -- will provide a variety of live music throughout the day. Guests are invited to bring a chair and make themselves comfortable.
Nationally known knifemaker and blacksmith Jason Knight will be on site with his forge providing demonstrations, and a silhouette artist will also be on hand.
Activities for children of all ages include a hand-powered corn sheller, a hayride and storytelling. On display will be a grain-threshing machine and a two-horse wagon.
A catfish dinner with all the trimmings will be available for purchase between 5 and 7 p.m. Hot dogs, sandwiches, barbecue, sweets and more will be sold throughout the afternoon and evening. Also scheduled is a silent auction from 1 to 4 p.m. and a live auction from 3 to 5 p.m.
