Zeus obtains certification in aerospace applications
By T&D Staff Saturday, November 07, 2009Zeus Inc., a leader in material science and polymer extrusions, has announced the acquisition of AS9100 certification for aerospace applications.
The standard was developed by The Society for Automotive Engineers and it defines quality and management requirements.
The company is also working directly with more suppliers to design end products for demanding applications.
“The AS9100 certification allows current and future partners to know we are knowledgeable of industry quality requirements and that we are committed to meeting or exceeding these benchmarks,” said Rob Hall, vice president of engineered extrusions. “We strive to provide a robust and responsive quality management system that will aid in the advancement of polymer solutions in aerospace applications.”
Products related to aerospace applications, include Peek Drawn Fiber (PEEKshrink), Insulated Peek Wire and wire-harness products, such as high-temperature heat shrinks.
The certification positions the company as Chicago-based aircraft maker Boeing announced its plans to build an assembly plant in North Charleston.
Because Boeing keeps minimal inventory, industry experts said suppliers will need to locate in South Carolina for quick shipments.
State lawmakers approved a generous incentives package that included $170 million in bonds and a number of tax breaks for Boeing.
Boeing also considered the Seattle suburb of Everett, Wash., home to Boeing’s original 787 assembly plant.
But the aircraft maker chose the East Coast site after talks broke down between the Machinists union in Washington and corporate officials.
The state is already home to nearly 80 Boeing suppliers and vendors.
Boeing has pledged to invest at least $750 million and create 3,800 jobs in the state within seven years.
