ST. MATTHEWS – The Calhoun County High School Army JROTC “Saints Battalion” remembered and celebrated past and present military veterans Wednesday.

The group’s annual Veterans Day breakfast and program was held at JROTC’s temporary facilities at the old John Ford School building. Because the high school is using the John Ford facilities while renovations are being completed at Calhoun County High School, an abbreviated observance was held in the school lunchroom.

The festivities included the presentation of colors, the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and a welcome to the veterans by Cadet Lt. Col. Jakeem Williford. Patriotic musical selections were performed by the CCHS Chorus.

Cadet Maj. Daraun White, Saints Battalion executive officer, presented a history of Veterans Day. In addition, a poem titled “Heroes” was recited by Cadet 2nd Lt. Ledeviny Bookhart.

Breakfast was served to all those attending.
