What education means to me

The following letters were written by Marshall Elementary School students in observance of American Education Week.

I can get an education to pay my bills and go to work to get my cable working. I will need money to feed my kids and to grow up.

— Laila Nimmons-Pre-Kindergarten (Mrs. T. Evans and Ms. J. Conners’ Class)

Education means learning to read. It means learning the ABCs. Education means learning to write.

— Lalia Ham-Kindergarten (Mrs. B. Rivers and Mrs. C. Antley’s Class)

A good education means that if you go to school one year you can go another year. You can try to be a nurse, a teacher, or a doctor. You get money to keep your house. That is a good thing.

— Torian Irons-First Grade (Mrs. M. Maier)

Education means teachers teaching and students learning. Education will help you to be smart and get good high paying jobs. My favorite place is the library because I like reading books.

— William Jones-2nd Grade (Ms. M. Oliver’s Class)

To me education means having an opportunity to become a singer and a veterinarian. Without an education I cannot do these things. If I get a good education then I can do these things. So I plan to study hard, complete my work, and go to college. I am going to listen to my teachers. I do not want to make bad choices. I plan to make good choices and work hard. Then I can be a veterinarian or singer. This is why education is important to me.

— Cailynn Morris-3rd Grade (Ms. A. Davis’ Class)

Education means my life! Without it, I would be ruined! Education is learning Math, ELA, Science, Health, and Social Studies. Education is the heart of the human being. If we have an education, we should be using it! A long time ago, there were slaves who were killed if they got an education! If I were a billionaire, I would still go to college to a get a better education. Just like my mom says, “If you are the smartest person in the world, still try to get more knowledge.” Also, if I were a billionaire, I would give all the money to Marshall Elementary School.

You must be wondering how I got so smart! Well, you’ll get your answer from the teachers at Marshall Elementary School. Now, after hearing all of this, what would you do for education?

— Parth Patel-4th Grade (Mr. H. Jean and Mr. M. Taylor, Jr’s Class)

What education means to me? That is a good question. Education to me means that whenever a teacher is talking about all the different kinds of subjects, I should give them 100 percent of my attention. Education to me means that I should do my homework and classwork, so when I’m older I can become a successful entrepreneur. Education also means what kind of choices I make in life.

If I give the teacher 100 percent of my attention, I can go far in life. Whenever I take a test I will know the answers very quickly. Even when I get a job, somebody might ask me about facts that I’ve learned in school. Also, I should give the teacher 100 percent of my attention to show her that I value her knowledge.

I should do my homework and classwork so I can make A’s and B’s. Another reason I should do my homework and classwork so I can tell others about what I’ve learned in school. Also, I should do my homework and classwork so I can get a scholarship to an amazing college. When I do my homework and classwork I don’t just help myself, I also help my teacher by showing her that I am a responsible student, just like when I get a job. I’m telling her what I know and what I need to improve on.

Education means what kind of choices I make in life. Some choices I can make are staying in school, listening to the teacher, and being affable. Another choice I can make is doing my homework and class work. When I make the right choices in life I can become anything that I desire to become in life.

If I do all these things I can go beyond far in life. That’s why it’s good to stay in school. It’s just like a parent feeding baby milk; well my teacher feeds me with learning so I can get an education in my life.

My education depends on how I act, participate, and react in life. If I hang around the right people, listen in class by giving my teacher my complete attention, make the right choices in life, and do my homework and class work, it will shape me into a great leader. That’s what education means to me. What about you?

— Madison J. Irick-5th Grade (Ms. M. Grant’s Class)
