Christmas season begins Sunday in Orangeburg

The city of Orangeburg's holiday celebration will begin with the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association's program "I'll Be Home for Christmas" at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Stevenson Auditorium, followed by the lighting of Memorial Plaza at 7:45 p.m.

Both programs are free, and the city of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department will serve hot chocolate on the square.

The lighting of the Children's Garden Christmas and Kids' Walk at Edisto Memorial Gardens follows at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center's Terrace Garden from 6 to 8 p.m., and live holiday music will be performed from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Lusty Gallery.

The Children's Garden Christmas will be lit from 5 to 10 p.m. and the Kids' Walk from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 24-Jan. 1. Admission is free.

Riverside Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 23 in preparation for the lighting ceremony and will reopen to one-way traffic at 8 p.m. Traffic from 6 to 10 p.m. on Riverside Drive through the Edisto Memorial Gardens will be one-way from the Memorial Fountain on Russell Street toward the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center, effective Nov. 24-Jan. 1.
