S.C. State Bulldogs need your help

I think I speak for the entire Orangeburg community when I say how proud we are of Coach Buddy Pough’s South Carolina State University football team and its accomplishments this season. The Bulldogs have clinched their second consecutive MEAC title and a berth in the NCAA playoffs, and the university is hopeful that the college will be rewarded with a home game for the first round of those playoffs. Attendance is one of the many factors in determining which teams earn the right to host a first-round playoff game and the Bulldogs need our support.

South Carolina State’s final regular season home game is this Saturday, Nov. 21, at 1:30 p.m. in Oliver C. Dawson Stadium against North Carolina A&T. It’s the first time in several years that S.C. State has played five home dates in Orangeburg and the school has named this game “Community Day.” Everyone knows what a large economic impact these home football games have on our community and now we have the possibility of securing a sixth home game for S.C. State and for Orangeburg.

I’m writing to encourage you to show up at Bulldog Stadium this weekend and support OUR football team. The ticket office is selling blocks of 10 tickets for $15 each and many of us have already made our commitment. Please call S.C. State today, reserve your tickets and invite your friends and family to join you this Saturday for some outstanding college football. I hope to see you there!

— Mayor Paul Miller, City of Orangeburg
